Murchison Falls National Park

Murchison Falls National Park

Uganda’s Mighty Waterfall & Wildlife Spectacle

Welcome to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area, where the mighty Nile River showcases its raw, untamed power. The park’s namesake is the breathtaking Murchison Falls, where the world’s longest river is funneled through a narrow 7-meter gorge, exploding outward with a thunderous roar in a display of nature’s force. This creates one of the most powerful natural phenomena on the continent.

A safari here is a diverse adventure. Embark on thrilling morning and afternoon game drives across the rolling savannah of the Buligi and Delta circuits. This is one of the best places in Uganda to see the Big Five; while rhinos are at the nearby Ziwa Sanctuary, you have an excellent chance to spot lions, leopards, elephants, and buffaloes, alongside large herds of giraffes, Uganda kob, and hartebeest.

The afternoon boat safari upstream to the base of the falls is an unmissable highlight. As you cruise along the calm Victoria Nile, you’ll glide past hundreds of hippos, massive Nile crocodiles sunning on the banks, and a spectacular array of waterbirds, including the rare Shoebill Stork. The journey culminates at the foot of the powerful falls, where you can feel the spray on your face.

For the ultimate view, take the hike to the “Top of the Falls”. Standing just feet from where the Nile plunges 43 meters into the gorge is a humbling and awe-inspiring experience. The park also offers excellent bird watching, with over 450 species recorded, and cultural encounters in the neighboring Mubako community.
